Dancing in the Rain

I got to dance in the rain with my kids today...and it was even show week!
Tomorrow is double tech rehearsals for our two end-of-season productions. I had so many things weighing on me today: finishing the tech script, tweaking choreography, and so much more!

But as I ran a few errands with my family, I knew that this week was just going to get busier and busier. I decided to seize the moment and go run in the sprinkler with my kids. We all got on our bathing suits and sunscreen, then headed to the backyard wading pool. We laughed, we played, we ran and splashed and even talked about how hot it was!

My Sophia, age 6, commented about a black cloud heading our way. I saw it but thought nothing of it - the entire sky was clear except for that one cloud. Off we went spraying, splashing and having a great time.

Before I knew it, it started to rain! Out of nowhere comes a steady rain...harder and harder it came down until we finally all looked at each other and couldn't help but laugh. My 2yr old, Dominic, was dancing in the middle of the yard, soaking wet! We were all soaked, so we joined him!

I danced in the rain today with my kids and it was show week. So many years I would have ignored this moment of joy to focus on work, on choreography, on the show. So glad I didn't this time...reminded me of what's really important. Moments with my family.

First Things First

Well, after two years of thinking about it, I'm finally starting this blog - on my 38th birthday!

I've realized over the past few years that I am a minority in my industry. This actually was a surprise to me but if you ask anyone, they would have said it after meeting me just once.
I'm a Dance Studio Director who has been running a studio for the past 13 seasons. But, I'm also a Dad to 3 amazing kids...Husband to the woman of my dreams...Part-time competition judge...and know my way around a fabric store, costume shop, craft mall, and so many more things my buddies would never know how to do! Ask me to change the oil in my car and I'm lost, but ask me to teach a musical theatre dance to a group of 5th graders, then I'm your man! :)

I believe I've been given this job for a higher purpose than just teaching dance steps or helping a team score well. I believe that just like the rest of mankind, God has gifted each of us for a unique job and purpose specifically fashioned by the Big Man Himself.

I'm hoping this blog provides a different perspective to the industry I'm so passionate about. I see things through the eyes of a dance educator, and more importantly, a Dad. I hope my voice will add to those that hold dance as a high standard and not in it 'just for the money' or to be on a tv show.

I'll be posting my thoughts on the latest dance news, trends, comp news, and more. You might even see a pic or a video!

I'm looking forward to sharing this wonderful world of dance with you. The blog title says it all...I'm truly a man of Tulle, Tutus & Testosterone!
